Despite some setbacks with construction in the first quadrant during the Downtown Monmouth beautification project, it is anticipated work will move into the northwest quadrant in November, reports Mayor Rod Davies:

“They are going to finish up the brick work and we had to repour a couple where folks decided to go for a stroll. They are already working on the sidewalk on the west side of North Main Street, so hopefully that will get done and move forward. They kind of invented the wheel, if you will, on how these bump outs are going to work and the various different areas. We don’t have nearly the handicap accessibility issues that we had in this first quadrant. We knew that the quadrant they just finished would have a lot of challenges with underground. We don’t believe we will run into these with the next one. They believe they can move through it fairly efficiently. We don’t want to tie up the Patton Block or any of the other businesses over there and the courthouse of course.”
