State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) will join with Carl Sandburg College and F&M Bank on Monday October 21 to host a seminar on how to avoid being scammed.
“Financial scams have targeted many of us in recent years,” Swanson said. “It seems as if everyone knows somebody who has been contacted by a scammer trying to fraudulently take their money or gain access to their personal information. We hope to help local residents learn how to spot the signs of a scam and avoid them before it is too late.”
The event will take place on Monday October 21 from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Galesburg Public Library’s community room, located at 264 W. Main Street in Galesburg.
Speakers, including local sheriffs and an outreach specialist from the Illinois Attorney General’s office, will share information on common scams and identity theft. They will provide tips on what to do if you have been targeted by a scammer, such as how to report fraud, and place fraud alerts and security freezes on your accounts.
“This will be an important informational event, and everyone is welcome,” Swanson said. “I hope you can stop by.”
