William A. Moody, Jr., age 89, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 4:28 am on Saturday October 19, 2024 at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Bill was born on May 19, 1935 in Asheville, North Carolina and is the son of William Arthur and Sara Kathryn Neal Moody. He was raised and educated in Asheville and Union Mills schools in North Carolina. After his schooling, he proudly served his country in the Army as a Radio Operator in North Korea for seven years. On November 27, 2005 Bill married Sandra Vaughan in Oquawka, Illinois and she is surviving him. Bill first learned to drive a truck at various trucking companies. He later owned three trucks himself and operated his own trucking company. After this he drove for several oil companies for a time and lastly drove for Slay Company in Muscatine, Iowa until his retirement in 1970. Bill enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator in Oquawka, he loved photography, and loved to go fishing in the river. Bill is a member of the Oquawka Masonic Lodge 123 AF & AM of Oquawka, IL and he and she attended the First Christian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Sandy and Bill loved to go boating and owned and loved to ride their motorcycle. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Sandy of Oquawka, Illinois and three sons, William A. Moody III, Glen Moody, and Dennis Moody, all of Lockport, Illinois. There are numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Three step grandchildren, Cassie Snyder of Chicago, IL, Madeleine Snyder of Albuquerque, NM, and Shannon Snyder of Denver, Colorado. He is preceded in his death by his grandparents and his parents. 

As were Bill’s wishes, his cremation is to be accorded. No visitation or funeral plans are presently being made. Interment of his ashes may be in the Oquawka Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for First Christian Church in Monmouth and may be sent to Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois which is in charge of his care.
