Compared to five years ago, Jamieson Community Center Executive Director Nancy Mowen reports the food pantry has seen an increase in the number of seniors:
“Right now, it is about twelve percent of the visits are coming from people that are in that older age bracket. They are in a position where you have a fixed income. If you are 80, going out and getting a second job probably isn’t an option for you, and so they have to figure out a way that they can balance. Insurance costs rise, they have prescription drugs, and deductibles of insurance plans are high.”
Director Mowen shares year to date numbers with services at Jamieson Community Center; there have been 5,000 visits to the food pantry and 882 families served.
