The McDonough District Hospital Community Pharmacy will officially open for business the morning of January 15, 2025.

“We are extremely excited for the opening of the Community Pharmacy. A lot of hard work by many people and businesses went into the construction and now completion of this project. Our Community Pharmacy has generated a lot of interest from the providers on campus and people in the community who keep asking us when the opening will be,” said MDH President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Murdock. “Our vision for the Community Pharmacy is to serve not only our patients but all residents of west-central Illinois by providing outstanding customer service. Building a Community Pharmacy with a Drive-Thru on the MDH campus provides convenience to anyone who needs a prescription filled following an appointment, and all the dollars will remain right here in McDonough County. Patients have a choice on pharmacies, we believe if you choose to use the Community Pharmacy to fill a prescription you’ll be impressed and want to come back again.”

The project took nearly 19 months from the groundbreaking ceremony in May 2023 to the planned opening next month.

MDH’s newest facility will be open seven days a week: Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed from 1-1:30 p.m. for lunch on the weekends).

“My team and I are training right now, so we will be ready to service patients both in the community and in long term care facilities,” said Community Pharmacy Director Nicole Dziuba, PharmD. “We have waited so long for this moment, and we are excited to finally bring our high level of pharmacy services to Macomb.”

Patients may transfer their prescriptions to the Community Pharmacy by letting their existing pharmacist and prescriber know, or by notifying the Community Pharmacy staff. The MDH pharmacists will handle the transfers at the patients’ request. There will also be an application people can download – for both Apple and Android phones – where refills can be requested.

MDH will offer Free home delivery as well as a 90-day supply for qualifying prescriptions.

The nearly 10,000 square foot building (9,845 square feet) is located just south of the Hospital’s main entrance (official address of 533 East Grant Street). Mirroring the popularity of the MDH Drive-Thru for lab draws and tests, MDH will use that same concept for the new Pharmacy building where patients can utilize the heated and air conditioned double-lane pharmacy Drive-Thru to pick up their medications or walk inside for pickup if they prefer, all before leaving the MDH campus from their medical appointment.

To use the Pharmacy Drive-Thru feature, patients must enter on the south side of the building and will next to the north.

Local coffee business Bold Brew House has a walk-up window inside the Community Pharmacy building. Coffee and select specialty drinks are available weekdays at the newly opened Bold Brew House Co. 533 (Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.).

Building a Pharmacy affiliated with the hospital means dollars spent on prescriptions and other purchases will remain local, supporting MDH and McDonough County.
