The United Red Storm girls basketball team is off to maybe its best start in consolidation history at (11-1). The only loss of the season came to the 3rd ranked team in class 1A, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes, back in the pre-Thanksgiving Tournament. The Red Storm have won their first two pool play games in their own Holiday Tournament, garnering wins over Farmington 62-29 and Payson-Seymour 59-32 on Saturday. Tonight, United takes on Elmwood in their final pool play game of the tournament. Both teams are (2-0) in pool play, with the winner going on to the tournament championship game on Thursday night. With the two games left in the tournament and a non-conference game against Orion at home on Saturday, the Red Storm girls will have nearly half of their regular season schedule played before Christmas. Head coach Chris Olson says the season seems to always go quickly, especially before the turn of each calendar year and his experienced team is ready to start checking off some season goals.

United will play Elmwood tonight at 8:00 in the Fieldhouse gymnasium. Other games tonight include the class 1A state runnerups from last winter, Illini Bluffs, playing two games due to some of the tournament’s games being postponed on Saturday morning. IB will play West Prairie at 5:00 and West Central at 6:30 before the United game at 8:00. West Central will also play Ridgewood at 5:00 in the junior high gym down the hall fro the Fieldhouse.
