Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 15, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior boys wrestler, Alex Gandarilla. Alex had a fantastic run through the 215 pound weight class at the 32 team PORTA Rex Avery Invitational. He went (5-1) for the day, with all five wins coming by way of pinfall. Alex brought home the consolation championship medal.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on freshman boys wrestler, Vann Olcott. Vann won a pair of matches at the 32 team PORTA Rex Avery Invitational. He garnered two pins for his two victories in the tournament. Earlier in the week, Vann also got a win in a triangular meet against ROWVA/Williamsfield and Sherrard.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman girls basketball player, Lilly Higgins. Lilly filled up the stat sheet in a pair of road games last week. She averaged 11 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2 steals per contest. Lilly nearly posted a double-double against Annawan, scoring 9 points and pulling down 8 rebounds.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Jozalyn Kilgore. Jozalyn came up big in an important road win at Quincy. She pulled off a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jozalyn also had a block shot and held the conference’s leading scorer to under her average for the season.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Kennedy Quinn. Kennedy averaged 20 points and 4 assists in a busy 4-game week for the Tornadoes. She was especially good against the #1 team in class 3A, Washington. Kennedy poured in 22 points and handed out 5 assists, going 9-11 at the free throw line.
