Gary L. Orwig, 81, of Galesburg, died at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025, following a short illness.

He was born June 25, 1943, in Moline, the son of Cecil Lee and Lavon Marion (McGarry) Orwig. He was married to Nancy J. Carlson on February 22, 1964, in Alpha.

Gary is survived by his children, Paula (Scott) Maxwell of Warrenton, Missouri, Rick Orwig of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Corey Orwig of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Chelsea (Cameron) Randall of St. Charles, Missouri, Marissa (Nick) Mucho of Wildwood, Missouri, and McKenzie Orwig of Galesburg; two great grandchildren, Ellis and Clara Randall; a sister, Bonnie Westfall of Galesburg; and nieces, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary began working at Maytag when he was just 19 years old in 1962. He retired from there on January 1, 2001, as the Day Superintendent. He graduated from Alexis High School in 1961. He was of Methodist faith. Gary enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching sports, and going to the riverboat casino. He especially liked going out to eat with family and friends.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be noon Friday, February 7, 2025, in Memorial Park Cemetery. A further celebration of Gary’s life will continue at 1 p.m. at Lieber’s Boxcar Express. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
