Mary Alice Ashby, age 72, of Galesburg, Illinois and formerly of Oquawka; passed away at 4:30 am on January 22, 2025 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Mary Alice was born on March 21, 1952 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the daughter of Jay Martin and Alice Belle Coziahr McGee. She attended school in Berwick and Galesburg and graduated from R.O.W.V.A. High School in the class of 1970 She then earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in July of 1972. Mary Alice married E. Eugene Ashby on January 21, 1978 in Oquawka, Illinois and he preceded her on October 22, 2010. Mary first was employed at Galesburg Research Hospital for 12 years. She then worked at Pinewood Nursing Home in Monmouth for 9 years and later worked at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. After that she was employed in Telemetry at OSF St. Mary Medical until her retirement in 2010. Mary Alice then became a school nurse at West Central in Biggsville. She enjoyed Ceramics and Crocheting but most loved her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Stogdill and Fiance’ Brian of Warrensburg, Missouri and her son, Bryan Ashby of Oquawka, Illinois. There are two step daughters Terry Cole of Florissant, Missouri and Patti Becker and Mark of Cameron, Illinois; and her step son Larry Ashby and Cindy of Galesburg, Illinois. There are three grandsons, Logan Stogdill of San Diego, California, Layne Stogdill and Fiance’ Alexi of LeClaire, Iowa and Landen Beelman of Stonghurst, Illinois, two granddaughters, Laurel Beelman and Fiance’ Dustin of Stronghurst, Illinois and Christine Ashby of Burlington, Iowa. Five step grandchildren survive, Stephanie Cole, Dara Duke, Christy Brakeville, Megan McGruder, and Stephen Ashby. There are thirteen great grandchildren including Scarlett, Ava, Lincoln, and Dax. Also surviving is her brother, Gary McGee and Pat from Sarasota, Florida . She is preceded in her death by her parents, her husband, “Ike”, and her brother, Edgar
A gathering of her family and friends is planned on Saturday February 1, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 am and a funeral service planned at noon at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois who is in charge of her care.
