Another chapter in the long running rivalry between the Macomb Bombers and Monmouth-Roseville Titans boys basketball teams was added to the books on Saturday night. At Macomb High School, the 10-10 Titans would look to end their current losing streak and get back on track heading into late January, however it would be the Bombers coming away with a 50-33 win. A 7-2 early Macomb run would get the Bombers out of the gate, but a Nick Huston three point play and Cee Sarcomo free throws would tie the game back up at 7. Just like they started the quarter however, the Bombers would end the first period of play with a 9-2 run to give them a 16-9 advantage.

Monmouth-Roseville would come out swinging to begin the second quarter, shrinking the Macomb lead to just 16-15, but that run was quickly answered by a quick basket, then a Braden Holthaus three to give the Bombers a 21-15 lead. Nearing the end of the first half, the Titans would find themselves trailing by double digits, before a layup from Lars Bergren took us into the break with Macomb leading 29-21. Out of the halftime, the Bombers would put on another run after free throws from Titans junior Landyn Angelo. Monmouth-Roseville was able to get the lead under single digits after an emphatic block from Payton Thompson led to a run out and score from Bergren. Macomb was still able to end the third on a high note though, as Drew Watson nailed a three pointer near the end of the quarter to help re-up the Bombers lead to 42-29 heading into the fourth.

Points would come at a premium in the final quarter of play as Macomb slowed things down to try and preserve their lead. Monmouth-Roseville’s final points of the ball game would come on a step back jumper from Ethan Clark, to give us our final score of 50-33 in favor of the Bombers. In the stat book for the Titans, Lars Bergren led the way for Monmouth-Roseville with 9 points while Cee Sarcomo added in 8. With the loss the Titans record now falls to 10-11, and they will get another couple days rest before taking on the Riverdale Rams at the Shoebox on Friday, January 24th.
