Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on sophomore boys basketball player, Lars Bergren. Lars has quickly became one of the offensive leaders for the Titans. He scored a career-high 27 points in a Sandburg Shootout win over Olympia. Lars also pulled down 11 rebounds in the game, giving him his first career double-double.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Nolan Jenks. Nolan did what he always does in a close loss to Illini Central at the Sandburg Shootout. He filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Nolan also contributed in the intangible stats, by getting a steal and going 2-3 from the free throw line.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Alex McGraw. Alex led the Heat in scoring in a win over Hartsburg-Emden at the Sandburg Shootout. Besides his 16 points, h e also contributed to the win in other ways, as well. Alex pulled down 7 rebounds and handed out 4 assists, along with getting a steal on defense and going 4-5 from the free throw line.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls wrestler, Eliana Juarez. Eliana took 2nd place by going (3-1) in the 115 pound weight class in the highly competitive Keokuk Invitational. She won all three matches by technical fall by a combined 58-8. Eliana is (15-3) overall on the season.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys bowler, Zylur Combs. Besides being an accomplished trap shooter for Abingdon-Avon High School, Zylur can also roll a bowling ball very well. He had the Tornado boys team’s highest 6-game series at the A-Town Invitational with a total of 1075 pins for 14th place. Zylur had a single-game high of 216.
