Buddy J. Frakes, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Buddy was born on March 14, 1938, in Galesburg, the son of Jefferson and Mary (Shinnenberger) Frakes. On June 29, 1979, he married the love of his life, Anita Gioannini, in Peoria, and together they shared many wonderful years.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Anita; his daughter, Amy Frakes of Indianapolis, Indiana; his son, Randy (Kathryn) Frakes of Burlington, Iowa; and his two cherished granddaughters, Joanna and Alexandra Frakes. He is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Ray and Joann Gioannini, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a nephew. His faithful Jack Russell Terrier, Tina Marie, who brought him great joy, also preceded him in passing.

Buddy attended Galesburg schools before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, with time stationed in Thailand. Some of his fondest memories were from his experiences in Hawaii. Upon returning home, he worked as a meat cutter at Jerry’s Superette before spending over three decades as a steelworker at Butler Manufacturing, retiring in 2004.

A man of many interests, Buddy found great joy in working on cars, fishing, and tinkering with various projects. He loved attending swap meets, exploring fairs, and sharing stories with friends and family.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. A prayer service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a procession to Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, where a graveside service with military honors, conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monsignor Thomas Mack will officiate.

In honor of Buddy’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or the Immaculate Conception School Scholarship Fund. Online condolences may be shared atwww.h-p-w.com.
