D. Mark Morton, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, February 10, 2025 at his home.
Mark was born October 15, 1945 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Robert I. and Louie Pauline (Douglas) Morton.
Mark was raised in the Fountain Green, Illinois, area and graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1964. Following high school he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1965 – 1971. After his discharge, he worked as a lab technician for Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay, Minnesota for 17 years and Prince Manufacturing in Quincy, Illinois, for 16 years. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Carthage, Illinois. Most of all, he loved being a grandpa and papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four children: Stephanie Morton of Houston, Texas, Jason (Jennifer) Morton of Carthage, Illinois, Douglas Morton of Springfield, Illinois and CC (Wanda) Guymon of Warsaw, Illinois, nine grandchildren: Dillon, Cassidy, Lisanne, Lindsey, Jessica (Mikeal), JJ, Jordan, Saydie (James) and Caden; thirteen great-grandchildren: Addison, Allison, Aiden, Ryker, Kylie, Rowan, Rexton, Kaiden, Logan, Amirah, Avah, Aliviah and Zaxsten and one sisters: June Huff of Elvaston, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Rose Morton, Anna Lou Clawson and Joyce Kay Lamauck and and one brother: Frank Morton.
Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.
