Loren L. “Butch” Smyers, Jr., 86, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the LaMoine Retirement Assisted Living, Macomb, IL.

Butch was born June 13, 1938, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Loren Sr. and Evelyn F. (Sinkhorn) Smyers.  He was raised and educated in Roseville and graduated from Roseville High School. 

Butch served with the United States Marine Corps for four years.   

Butch married Joan Chellew in Taylorville, IL on December 31, 1960, and she passed away on July 3, 2024.

Butch was an over-the-road truck driver, he worked at Munson Transportation in Monmouth for many years and later Star Transportation.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Butch was an avid reader and enjoyed watching war movies.  He liked cooking and baking and was known for taking cookies to local nursing homes.

Survivors include his son, Keegan (Pamela) Smyers of Gerlaw, IL; his daughter, Kristin Sigler of Gerlaw, IL; grandchildren, Bryce Smyers of Alexis, Alexander Smyers of Gerlaw, Ryan Garin and Kayliegh Garin both of GA, and Ella Sigler of IN; his great-grandsons, Brody Smyers, Kade Smyers and Waylon Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; and infant children, Kevin and Kathleen Smyers.
