Nancy E. Hunnicutt, 85, formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:02 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, in Carle Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Nancy was born December 1, 1939, in Galesburg, the daughter of William H. and Ethel (Johnson) Lavely. She married Larry Hurr in 1959. She later married Loren R. Hunnicutt on January 5, 1973, in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Loren; two sons, Shawn (Sandi) Hurr of St. Charles, Missouri and William R. “Randy” (Loretta) Hunnicut of St. Charles, Missouri; a daughter Tammy (Bobby) Barker of Washington, a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Witt-Hurr of St. Augustine, Florida; two sisters, Evelyn Wright of Galesburg and Darlene (Jerry) Bowman of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, with one on the way in August. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jill in 1959; a son, Marty in 2020, and a grandson, Amos Sword in 2023.
Nancy lived most of her life in Galesburg. She attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1957. She did some course work at North Central College in Naperville. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Knox County Highway Department for 20 years, retiring in 2002.
Nancy attended the East Galesburg Community Chapel and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Her remains will be entombed at East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Loren Hunnicutt to help with medical expenses.
