Sandburg Chargers Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Gearing Up for Postseason Play

The Sandburg men’s basketball team will travel to face Madison on Thursday to open the postseason.

The Chargers (18-12) earned the No. 11 seed in the Region 4 Division II District B tournament and will face the sixth-seeded WolfPack (18-9) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Madison. The contest will be streamed at madisoncollege.tv (subscription required).

The teams met twice in the regular season, with Madison coming away victorious both times. The WolfPack won 84-72 on Nov. 16 in Galesburg and 101-95 in overtime at Madison on Feb. 1 despite a career-high 34 points from Chargers sophomore guard Logan Sluder.

The winner of Thursday’s contest advances to the semifinals at 6 p.m. Sunday at Rock Valley against the winner of No. 3 South Suburban and No. 14 Prairie State.

The tournament championship is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 8, also at Rock Valley.

The Region 4 Division II District B tournament champion qualifies for the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, which will take place March 17-22 in Danville.

The Sandburg women’s basketball team’s quest for another championship this season will get started Thursday at home.

The Chargers (21-9), who already have a second straight Arrowhead Conference title to their credit, earned the No. 5 seed in the Region 4 Division II District A tournament and will host 12th-seeded Madison at 6 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. The game will be streamed on the Sandburg YouTube channel.

Sandburg won both meetings with the WolfPack (11-16) during the regular season. The Chargers earned a 77-61 victory Nov. 16 at home and won 68-59 at Madison on Feb. 1.

The winner of Thursday’s contest advances to the semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rock Valley against the winner of No. 4 Black Hawk and No. 13 Bryant & Stratton.

The tournament championship is scheduled for noon March 8, also at Rock Valley. The Chargers reached last year’s championship game before falling to Morton.
