The United Red Storm girls basketball are headed to the regional championship game of the ROWVA/Williamsfield class 1A tournament. United is (28-4) overall on the season after beating Ridgewood in the regional semifinals on Monday night. Their four losses have come twice to the state’s 2nd ranked team in class 1A, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes, and twice to the 8th ranked Wethersfield Flying Geese. The Red Storm actually have a chance to avenge those losses, as they take on the Flying Geese on Thursday night in the regional championship at Williamsfield High School and then possibly seeing A-Town in the sectional tournament that United will host next week. United lost at Wethersfield by just three points back on January 27th in a regular season conference match up and then again in the Lincoln Trail Conference tournament semifinals on February 8th by 12 points.
The Red Storm have not lost back-to-back games all season and head coach Chris Olson says a lot of that has to do with the plethora of seniors on the roster. He says the vast varsity experience of his seniors have paid dividends many times throughout the season and he expects it will in the third meeting with Wethersfield on Thursday.
