The flu season is showing no signs of letting up anytime soon and symptoms seem to be sticking around longer than normal. Locally, the District Nurse at West Central sent out a letter to families, reminding them to keep their student home if they are feeling ill, shares Superintendent Stacey Day:

“It is every building; it is kids and adults. We are seeing everything from the normal flu, COVID, RSV, pneumonia; we had a lot of pneumonia walking around back in December. It is taking kids and staff members out for longer periods of time than normal; it has just been really rough. The letter really highlights our normal health reminders, hygiene reminders, just encouraging everyone to make sure they are washing their hands frequently; if you are running a fever, stay home so we are not passing things off to other people. Plus, remembering that fever free without the help of medication as well, just helps us avoid spreading things further than we need to.”

Additionally, the letter reminds parents that if a student has a fever 100.4 or greater and is send home from school, they should not return the following day, ensuring the 24-hour fever free policy is in place.
