Abingdon-Avon High School Winter Sports Success Extends Across the Board

Abingdon-Avon High School had success across the board in their winter sports programs. Leading the way was the A-Town girls basketball team. The squad won 30 games, won two in-season tournaments and made it all the way to the super sectional round before being eliminated by the eventual state champs in class 1A, Pecatonica.

After a slow start, the A-Town boys basketball team won 19 games, took 2nd in the LTC regular season standings, won the LTC Tournament and made a second straight appearance in a regional championship game.

Both Tornado bowling teams saw some success, as well. The A-Town girls qualified as a team for the sectional meet, while boys freshman Skylar Baldwin went to sectionals as an individual. A

The spring sports season has already began for the Tornadoes. The boys and girls indoor track season started last Friday at the ROWVA/Williamsfield Invitational at Knox College. The Tornadoes were led by Carter Stroot’s two individual wins in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Jamil (juh-MEEL) Johnson took first in the high jump.
