On 3/7/2025 at 9:16 am Macomb High School Staff received information about a student in possession of ammunition on school property. School Staff quickly alerted the School Resource Officer, and the student was secured without incident. The student was cooperative and honest throughout the investigation. The student had parked his vehicle within 1000 feet of school property but not on school property due to losing their parking privileges and had walked to school. The student was on school property while in possession of ammunition. The student admitted having two revolver handguns inside his vehicle parked off school property but within 1000 feet of school property.

The student’s parent gave permission to search the vehicle and two revolvers were located. After interviewing the student and information gathered during the investigation, there were no indications of a threat to anyone at the school or otherwise.

After consulting with the State’s Attorney Office on charges, the student was charged with Two Counts of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm within 1000 feet of a school and Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition. Juvenile Probation were then consulted reference the charges. Juvenile Probation determines whether a juvenile is detained in a juvenile detention center or processed and released. Juvenile Probation determined that the student did not score out to be detained, therefore the juvenile was processed and released to his parent pending a court date.

We wish to thank MHS Administration and Staff for their quick and complete response.

The juvenile is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
