Monmouth-Roseville High School Hosts Annual IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday

The Monmouth-Roseville High School Music Department will try to claim yet another state championship this weekend as they host the annual IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday. The vocal department has won 12 straight Class B state titles. Combined with the band, Monmouth-Roseville has won 3 of the last 5 class B state titles. Vocal Coach Kevin Ferry and Band Directors Lisa Fornoff and Arturo Martinez have been a big part of that success. All 12 vocal state championships have been won under Ferry’s director.

The contest on Saturday will be the biggest event ever held at the Monmouth-Roseville. There is expected to be over 1100 musical events by over 800 students in 27 performance rooms. Ferry gives his theory on the surge in participation.

The IHSA Solo and Ensemble competition will start at 8am on Saturday at Monmouth-Roseville High School. We’ll have a live remote from 2-4 in the afternoon on Sunny 97.7 WMOI and radiomonmouth.com.
