The United Red Storm girls basketball team’s historic season came to an end in the regional championship game against Wethersfield on February 20th. The Red Storm fell to a then, red-hot Flying Geese 39-25 in the class 1A ROWVA/Williamsfield regional in Williamsfield. United will graduate a plethora of seniors off this year’s squad. The senior class was an instrumental part of the rise of the Red Storm girls basketball program, with most being 3-year varsity starters. As sophomores, that group of seniors won 9 varsity contests. The victory total nearly doubled to 16 during their junior year. This past season ended with a school-record 28 wins against just five losses. Those five total losses were to only two teams, albeit, two of the best teams in the state. The Red Storm fell twice to Abingdon-Avon, who won 30 games, were ranked #2 in the Class 1A AP Poll and made a super sectional appearance. United’s other three losses were to Kewanee Wethersfield, who won 27 games, were ranked #8 in the 1A poll and were knocked out of the playoffs by Abingdon-Avon in a sectional championship match up. United head coach Chris Olson says with both of those schools in the same conference, it shows how strong the LTC is.

Olson says that while it’s great the girls had success on the court, he’s even more proud how this group carries themselves off the court.
