Arrest Made in Financial Scam Case

Sheriff Jack Harlan announces the arrest of a Chicago man scamming a Knox County elder.

On March 31st, 2025 Knox County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a scam that directly affected the financial position of an elderly female in the Galesburg area.

Knox County Detectives organized an undercover operation to uncover the parties involved in the scam. On April 9th, 2025 Knox County Detectives were able to continue communication with the scammers, which lead to taking the suspect into custody.

Suspect was later identified as: Kalpeshkumar V Patel – 31 Y/O of Chicago

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office addresses crimes against the elderly with the utmost seriousness and urgency. With the advancement in technology, it is important to protect vulnerable members of the community, ensuring that any acts of abuse or exploitation are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

Sheriff Harlan reassures the public that his office is dedicated to raising awareness about these issues, offering resources and support to seniors, and fostering a safe environment where they can live without fear of victimization.

The Sheriff’s proactive approach reflects a broader initiative to strengthen community ties and encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities affecting the elderly.
