Monmouth College senior Daniel Lummus (New Port Richey, Florida) was named Midwest Conference position performer of the week on Monday. The catcher/outfielder/pitcher was instrumental in the Scots going 3-1 last week including a MWC series win at Grinnell over the weekend.

Lummus had a great weekend at the plate against Grinnell and also had a home run in the midweek win over Blackburn. Lummus went 7-for-16 in the series win at Grinnell as Monmouth went 2-1 on the road. He had two home runs, one triple, five runs scored, one walk and nine RBI in three games while also throwing out a base stealer. Lummus hit a grand slam in Saturday’s game 1 win while also collecting a single and a walk.

On Sunday, he homered again while adding a RBI triple to drive in five as the Scots won 8-7. He was a double shy of the cycle with four hits total. In Wednesday’s home win over Blackburn, Lummus homered and scored three runs while starting the game in CF. He finished the game on the mound with a scoreless inning of work, showcasing his flexibility.

Lummus is the first position player of the week for the Scots since Clayton Matkovic (Sherrard, Illinois) won it last April. Raul Guillermo (Miami, Florida) won the awards twice in 2023. The Scots will play at Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday before hosting Knox this weekend in a 3-game series.
