McDonough District Hospital hired Wayne Laramie, RN, BSN, MBA, NEA-BC, as Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Laramie brings more than 30 years of nursing leadership experience to MDH.

Most recently, Laramie served as Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, a 241-bed acute care hospital. He oversaw six directors with all inpatient units, surgical services, PACU, women and infants, emergency services, professional development, and Magnet program.

Laramie and OSF were able to achieve an increase in core staffing, a CMS star level, robotic cases, productivity goals, HCAPS scores, and a prestigious Magnet designation in January.

“We are excited to welcome Wayne to our MDH family. He brings a wealth of leadership experience across several different departments to our organization,” said MDH President & Chief Executive Officer Bill Murdock. “When Wayne came to interview, our nursing leadership members were all impressed with his demeanor and experience with various departments and patient care.

“On behalf of the organization, we want to say Thank You to Wanda Foster for coming out of retirement and serving as our interim Chief Nursing Officer over the past couple of months. Wanda has done an incredible job, again, as our CNO working with our nursing leadership and preparing us for our upcoming Joint Commission survey,” stated Murdock.

At MDH, he will supervise several departments at MDH, including: Acute Care/ICU, Surgical Services, Home Health Care/Hospice, Emergency Services, Quality, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Case Management along with other departments.

Laramie worked at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Wisconsin as the Vice President of Patient Care/CNO. He helped the hospital increase its Leapfrog Score for patient safety, reduce agency staff spend, and increase the organization’s CMS star rating.

For 25 years he worked with SSM Health in the St. Louis area, starting in the ICU then moving to the Emergency Department. He was responsible for seven emergency departments in the SSM system as its Vice President of Emergency Services for the St. Louis network before being promoted to Vice President/CNO.

He earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from St. Mary’s College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis. Laramie earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Lindenwood.
