Heading into planting season, producers are looking at trade challenges and opportunities for the United States crop. Looking down the road, Edward Jones Financial Advisor Ryan Painter points out that changes to worldwide demographics are having a greater impact on market opportunities.

“As far as production and labor, we have problems all over the world, but China has an exaggerated problem. [With] their one-child policy, and then the sort of preference of boys over girls– it just exasperates the problem even further.” says Painter.“I think it’s overblown, but you hear a lot of complaints about the younger generations not wanting to work and things like that. But they have that problem in China too.”

Not only is China facing the challenges of its shifting population demographics, but there has also been a shift in the country’s trade focus.
