Mrs. B. Joanne Batson, 87, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away at 7:10 pm, Thursday, May 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her four loving daughters.
Joanne was born on September 5, 1937, in Galesburg, the daughter of John and Helen (Trout) Stockham. She graduated from Abingdon High School and later married the love of her life, Ronald G. Batson, on September 3, 1954. Together they shared 64 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2019.
Joanne is survived by her four daughters, Kimberly Robinson, Terri (and Dave) Way, Cindy (and Rick) Cozadd and Roxanne (and Dave) McCune all of Abingdon; seven grandchildren, Angie Craig, Christopher Heiser, Kelly (and Kurt) Norris, Anthony (and Cindy) Way, Amy (and Gary) Kalas, Amanda (Barry Bradshaw) Hagerty and Tara (Jesse Smith) Hawk, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson with another one on the way. She is also survived by her special sister-in-law, Louise Batson of Macomb, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Stockham; her sister Betty Stockham Johnson; her grandson, Bradley Cozadd and her grandson-in-law, Tom Craig.
Joanne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was good at everything she did and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed knitting and was an exceptional cook. She was known for her famous potato salad and was a stellar pie maker. Joanne also was known for her homemade noodles, which three of her four daughters carry on that legacy. She worked as the bookkeeper for Skinner Construction for several years and later served as the Abingdon City Clerk for three terms from 1993-2005. Joanne was an active member of the Abingdon American Legion Auxiliary Post 381.
Joanne was a woman of deep faith, being baptized and a lifetime member of the Abingdon Christian Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Feed my Lamb, Inc.
