Betsy Ann Akey, 84, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at her home.

Betsy was born on August 24, 1940, in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of George Roy and Amelia Josephine (Skrube) Bacon. She was raised and educated in Sheboygan, attending Sheboygan County Teachers College, Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL, and Monmouth College.

On August 19, 1961, Betsy married Armond J. Akey in Sheboygan, WI, and he survives.

She was a teacher and literacy coordinator at the Pass Alternative School in Monmouth for several years.

Betsy was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, where she sang in the Choir for over 50 years, served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. She was President of P.E.O. Chapter E and OGM. She was also a member of the local Bridge group.

Survivors include her husband, Armond Akey; her daughter, Lanette (Tim) Schuster of Jim Falls, WI; her son, Dean (Eileen) Akey of Louisburg, KS; her sister, Colleen Hickman of Plover, WI; grandchildren, Aaron Grieger, Brooke Grieger, Clay Akey, Emma Akey and Penelope Marks; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie Cannon, and brother, Jay Bacon.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Church. Memorials may be given to Faith United Presbyterian Church and sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.
