The Chicago White Sox are banning a 22-year-old fan indefinitely from Rate Field after shouting inappropriate heckles at a Arizona Diamondbacks infielder. In the seventh inning of a White Sox loss to Arizona, the Chicago fan began taunting Ketel Marte, referencing the All-Star’s late mother. Marte’s mother was killed in a car accident in 2017 in the Dominican Republic. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo requested the fan be ejected from the stands. The fan reportedly admitted to his comments and expressed remorse for his actions. Marte was visibly upset after the incident, but it’s not publicly confirmed whether that was the reason. He declined to comment following the game. The Southsiders host the Giants tomorrow.
