Before the next school year arrives, Curstin Brown, Front Desk Team Lead with Kehoe Eye Care, reminds parents that children entering kindergarten or any Illinois school for the first time to have a comprehensive eye exam:
“Illinois does require all children entering kindergarten or any Illinois school for the first time to have a comprehensive eye exam done and performed by a licensed eye doctor. Eye exams help detect common vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, a stigmatism, and also more serious issues like a lazy eye, color blindness, or eye misalignment. They all impact learning and development if left untreated. One in four children actually have an undiagnosed vision problem that can affect their learning, but many vision issues are treatable if caught early and regular eye exams can help track vision development as your kids grow.”
The deadline for completing a child’s comprehensive eye exam for school is October 15th.
