Throughout life we plan for many things, but you don’t typically plan for the final stage of life. Improving quality of life when cure is no longer and option is just part of the education Beacon of Hope Hospice provides to families, explains Chief Business Development Officer Adele Malcolm:
“Hospice in general is just there for support when someone has a life limiting illness. Our goal is to educate people and to make them aware of the support that is out there for them when they need it, so that it is just not fear-based when that time comes. It is 100 percent covered by Medicare. Many times, people don’t utilize it early enough in the process. Having that conversation is difficult. It is a scary process and our goal is to get in front of people earlier in that process so they can see the full benefits, the support of the chaplain, the support of the social worker, and the support of even an aid can go a long way to help people age in place, which means we go wherever a patient is.”
Beacon of Hope Hospice has moved locations in Galesburg to 1235 North Henderson Street.
