David Leon Flack, 84, went to meet his Lord & Savior on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Born on June 16, 1941 in Galesburg, IL to Wallace E. Flack and Helen A. McNeil Flack, David grew up with a deep love for the land, his family, and his faith. He graduated from ROVA High School in 1959 and married the love of his life, Connie Sue Smith, on February 11, 1962, at Rio Presbyterian Church.
Affectionately known as “Grandpa Hoggie,” David was a lifelong farmer, working alongside his son and grandson until the day of his passing. He served on the Knox County Pork Producers and Illinois Pork Producers Boards for many years, and was inducted into the Pork Hall of Fame with Connie in 2003. He also dedicated time to numerous local agriculture and community boards.
He had a love for two-cylinder John Deere tractors, and few things brought him more joy than pulling a hayrack ride filled with laughing grandkids and great-grandkids. His sense of humor was quick and memorable—full of legendary one-liners. If you ever received a phone call from him, you knew it was over when he simply said, “Clear.”
David and Connie made memories traveling to Canada, the Holy Land, and across the U.S. on camping and boating trips with dear friends. His generosity, warmth, and ability to make anyone feel like family left a mark on countless lives. He was a faithful member and elder at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg, baptized in 2008. David loved and served his church family well. As a young boy of 12 years old, Psalm 23 became his life passage, bringing him much comfort, strength and joy.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Stephen Flack.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Connie, and their children: Monte (Deanne) Flack of Urbana, IL; Carolyn (Steve) Oliver of Decatur, IL; and John (Rhonda) Flack of North Henderson, IL. He was the proud grandfather of Kendall (Emily) Oliver, Kayla (Judah) Renfro, Madison Flack, Amber Flack, Mason (Emma) Flack, and Nathan Flack, and great-grandfather to Jocelyn, Stella, Maebel, Lucille, Briley, Elouise, Henry, Rosalie, and Andrew. Also surviving are his brother William (Bobbie) Flack, nephew Danny (Courtney) Flack and family.
David Flack leaves behind the legacy of a strong, godly marriage, a faith that shaped every area of his life, and a family rooted in love and hard work. He will be remembered most for his legacy of faith, family, and farming—and the joy and laughter he shared with everyone blessed enough to know him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m., both at Bethel Baptist Church, 1196 N Academy St, Galesburg, IL. Graveside services will follow at Rio Baptist Cemetery (2 miles south of Rio, IL). Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the church following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boots & Blessings (a local foster care ministry founded by his granddaughter, Madison Flack) at 29 Knox Road 2500 N, North Henderson, IL 61466. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
