Mr. Hugh William Barnes, 92, of Galesburg passed away at 11:25 pm, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.

Hugh was born on August 16, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Hugh W. and Evelyn (Weinert) Barnes. He graduated from Waller High School in 1951 and later attended Carl Sandburg College. Hugh served in the US Air Force as an Airman 1st Class.

He married Mary Kathryn Urich on April 23, 1953, in Corinth, Mississippi, after 48 years of marriage she preceded him in death on December 11, 2001. He later married Betty (Stanley) Lankford on September 17, 2004, in Abingdon, Illinois. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Carol L. (Mitch) Ericson of Galesburg, Debra A. (Pat) Crain of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Sandra K. Reed of Rockford, Illinois, William S. Barnes of Galesburg and Richard L. Barnes of Rockford; two sisters, Pat (the late Bruce) Benson of Jacksonville, Florida and Bonnie (Chris) Pintard of Ocala, Florida; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; stepson, Shirley “Bub” (Cindy) Lankford of Moline, Illinois and his son-in-law Timothy (Dori) Redington of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, his daughter, Sheila K. Redington, his sister, Linda Artist and his parents.

Hugh worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation for over 43 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the former Moose Lodge #880. He also was a Mason with the Galesburg Alpha Masonic Lodge 155. Hugh was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness.

Visitation will be from noon-1:00 pm, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Director and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the chapel with Elder Harold Schneider officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in East Linwood Cemetery next to his first wife, Mary.
