James E. “Ed” Roe

James E. “Ed” Roe, 77, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home.    

Ed was born on July 16, 1947, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Delwyn and Edna (Stegall) Roe.  He was raised and educated in Warren County, graduating from Warren High School in 1967.

Ed served with the United States Army stationed in Vietnam from 1970-1972.

Ed married Eileen Schreck on October 31, 1970 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Augustine, IL and she survives. 

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Monmouth American Legion and the Monmouth VFW.

He worked as a forklift driver at Maytag in Galesburg for 36 years before retiring in 2003.  He enjoyed tinkering in the garage, watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Illini.  He also enjoyed family camping trips and coaching his kid’s baseball teams.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Roe; his children, Matthew (Jessica) Roe of LeRoy, IL, Jason (Kate) Roe of Knoxville, IL, Jenni Roe of Monmouth, Brad Roe of Scottsdale, AZ and Trevor Roe of Monmouth; 6 grandchildren, Alyssa Roe, Caden Stokes, Emily Roe, Maggie Roe, Brian Moyer and Lucy Roe; 3 siblings, Walt Roe of Galesburg, Margaret Rountree of Monmouth and Gerald Roe of London Mills, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Phil Roe and Don Roe.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, June 30, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Visitation will be prior to the mass from 9:30-10:30 am at the church with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:30 am. Interment with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Monmouth.  Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception School Endowment Fund and sent to the funeral home.
