Richard W. “Wayne” Coursey, 91, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 surrounded by his family in Monmouth, IL.

Richard was born February 23, 1934 in Monmouth, the son of Harold Faye “Bud” and Irma Grace (Hendrix) Coursey.  He was raised and educated in Kirkwood, graduating from Kirkwood High School in 1952. 

Richard served with the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1955.

Richard married Betty Ann Burnett in Kirkwood on November 12, 1955 and she died July 9, 1998.

Richard worked for the City of Burlington in the Public Works Department.  He later worked as the Ammonia Terminal Manager for Koch Industries in Burlington for over 25 years before retiring in 2000.

Genealogy was his passion.  His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and he saw them as his greatest responsibility.  He was an incredibly generous and reliable father and will be greatly missed.  He was also a Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Illinois fan.

Survivors include his sons, Steven P. (Brenda) Coursey of Monmouth and Timothy R. Coursey of Burlington, IA; his daughter, Jolinda K. Coursey of Ft. Madison, IA; 6 grandchildren, Steve W. Coursey, Kenneth R. Coursey, Andrew R. Coursey, Scott Coursey, Betty Ann Zufall and Zachary Coursey; 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Coursey Barr of Macomb, IL; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Springsteen Coursey of Burlington; sister-in-law, Charlotte R. Coursey of Burlington; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 sons, Patrick Eric Coursey and Jeffery Allen Coursey; his brother, Larry Thomas Coursey and his sister, JoAnne Coursey Presson.

Cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.  Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association and sent to the funeral home.
