With the heat this week, it’s important to not only take care of yourself, but also check in on others. One big reminder, don’t leave kids or pets in a hot car. It might sound like something that doesn’t happen often, but it still does. Take a second to double-check the backseat before you get out. Also, while it may be tempting to leave your car running to keep it cool, remember that leaving your vehicle idling makes it far more vulnerable to theft. Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards shares a few more things to keep in mind during this stretch of hot weather.
“When it gets super hot like this. It’s not uncommon for US 34 to buckle, and we have those blow ups. As you’re transiting Monmouth and Galesburg. Just be aware that could happen quite unexpectedly, or you could drive up on it not see it, I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it seems to happen, especially when it gets super hot. So just be cognizant of the fact that hazard could exist on the highway and when we’re out there trying to keep you from driving through it please slow down.”
Sheriff Edwards also reminds everyone to stay hydrated, especially if you’ll be in direct sunlight for an extended period.
