Monmouth City Council has endorsed an OSLAD Grant application for improvements at Citizen’s Lake, which would include the addition of a walking path, states Communications Director Ken Helms:
“We have been trying to improve Citizen’s Lake as we can achieve grants for it and this one would be utilized in an OSLAD Grant, which we have been the recipient of before in the past. Now, with this round that we are applying for, this would be a 1,500-foot walking path that would be on the west side of the bridge that we have out there. We won’t be replacing the bridge, but this would be an asphalt or mixed surface path there so wheelchairs and anybody with limited mobility can access that as well. Then throughout the path there would be numerous signs talking about Illinois and Monmouth native flora and fauna, there would be some benches to take a rest or sit there and enjoy the environment, and then we would also put some birdhouses on there.”
Helms reports this would be the first stage of eventually building a longer walking path around the entire outskirts of Citizen’s Lake.
