Telesforo Carrera Gutierrez, 75, of Galesburg, died at 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025, with family at his side.
He was born April 20, 1950, in Durango, Mexico, the son of Cruz Gutierrez and Emilia Carrera. He married Sarrah Frances Glenelle Woods on July 23, 1973, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He later married Rosemary “Dolly” Guerrero.
He is survived by a daughter, Alicia Alfaro of Galesburg; his step daughter, Christina (Eliseo) Jimenez of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Anthony Alfaro (Valerie), David Alfaro, Christopher Alfaro, Brandon Alfaro, Evan Alfaro (Shae), and Felicia Alfaro; 18 great grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters, including Catarino (Elizabeth) Gutierrez and Benjamin Gutierrez both or Aurora, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Telesforo will be remembered as a hard worker. He worked for Wilson’s for 14 years, then Waste Management for 11 years. He bought his own garbage truck 26 years ago and opened Teles Rubbish Removal, a business he was still operating up to two weeks ago. He had owned La Mesa for a time and also owned and operated the former Frances Café. In his spare time, he enjoyed mowing grass and spending time with his grandchildren.
The Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services. Visitation will continue following the Rosary until 7 p.m. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
