As winter draws near, the City of Monmouth is preparing for snow removal downtown and taking steps to preserve the fresh concrete by using sand instead of salt, explains Mayor Rod Davies:
“With this fresh, green concrete, we are going to tackle the snow removal in the areas we put new concrete down and we have sand available to try and help with traction because salt will destroy the new concrete. Even though we added an additive into the concrete, all the contractors involved in the project say we cannot have salt on it for the next couple of years. We need to get that set up and take care of it. Maybe in the future we can apply something to help seal that, but it is still too green to do that at this time.”
