Mr. Douglas C. Wilkins, 75, of Galesburg, Illinois died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
He was born on October 3, 1950, in Galesburg to Marvin “Mike” and Marcia (Nelson) Wilkins. He married Kathy Huber on September 4, 2010, in Galesburg.
Surviving is his wife, Kathy Wilkins of Galesburg, four sons, Andrew (and Dalanee) Wilkins of Knoxville, Illinois, Scott (and Nickie) Wilkins of Peoria, Illinois, Craig (and Heidi) Johnson of Galesburg, and Andrew (and Isabel) Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter, Jennifer (and James) McMurl of Galesburg, a sister, Linda Wilkins of Bloomington, Illinois, and seven grandchildren, Keegan Raska, Keith Johnson, Tayler Raska, Addisyn McMurl, Selene Johnson, Jade Johnson, and Rylie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Doug graduated from Galesburg High School in 1969. He received his teaching degree from North Park College in Chicago and was the manager of the wrestling team. Doug had several jobs in his working career. He worked at Peoples Do it Center and Duff’s Ace Hardware both in Galesburg. He also was a substitute teacher for Galesburg district #205 and the area schools. He worked for the Knox County YMCA and was a security guard for Knox College. At the end of his working career, he worked in maintenance and floor care for the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville and for the Covenant Church in Galesburg. He was an active member of the Covenant Church and was in the choir. He was also active with the Orpheum Theatre and participated in musicals and music programs. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Doug loved spending time with his family, especially his sons. He helped coach their little league baseball teams and as they got older, playing golf together. His favorite time was the Christmas Holidays when he got to play Santa. Doug was known by many and will be missed by all that know him.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. The family asks that those attending the visitation wear informal attire, preferably Chicago Cubs or Chicago Bears. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Church.
