Monmouth Police Sergeant Brian Hall has been with the department since 2004, and he says the officers continue to take classes to ensure public safety:
“Myself and another officer we actually at a ‘Ground Fighting Control Tactics Class.’ That was very interesting; a lot of jujitsu, a lot of ways to protect yourself if you are knocked down, a lot of ways to get up and control people. Under the new Safety Act, there is quite a few new restrictions on law enforcement that this class really walked us through and taught us how to abide by the law and still safely control people.”
Hall also says you need to lock your doors and practice defensive driving:
“As far as locking doors, I would say make sure that you always lock vehicles and your house. The majority of the vehicle burglaries that I come across, the vehicles aren’t damaged, it was because they were left unlocked. It is an unfortunate day and age we live in, but I would really suggest locking everything. The last one, would be defensive driving. I tell even my family members all the time, just because you have the green light, you still need to look both ways because not everybody else abides by the rules. Defensive driving can keep you out of a lot of trouble and save you a lot of money.”
