It is Fire Prevention Week. An important reminder to take those steps in keeping your homes and families safe in the event of a fire, says Monmouth Firefighter Kyle Martin:

“Of course, fire safety is about the entire year, but this week the Monmouth Fire Department is going around to a lot of the local elementary schools, just talking to students and teachers about fire safety and fire prevention. When it comes to fire prevention, a lot of it is very simple; checking your smoke detectors, having two ways out of your house, knowing where to go, having a meeting place with your family, sleeping with your door shut helps a lot; it helps greatly limit the fire spread and smoke as well, give you a little bit more time to plan what you might do, and the Monmouth Fire Department recently got a brand new fire safety trailer, which is a really good tool we are excited to use.”

This year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme is ‘Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in your Home,’ focusing on the use of safely using these batteries in the home, plus safely buying, charging, and recycling.
