Smithfield Foods’ Monmouth, Illinois, facility recently awarded a $3,500 grant to Monmouth-Roseville Community Unit School District #238, which will help purchase touchscreen Google Chromebooks for teachers at Harding Primary school.
“Supporting education in our community is something we take great pride in,” said Bruce Rundle, Monmouth general manager for Smithfield Foods. “We’re honored to help provide critical tools that empower teachers and enrich the learning experience for local students.”
The devices will allow teachers to assess students’ literacy skills more efficiently and accurately. The teachers rely on this data to determine literacy progress and provide targeted instruction to ensure all second-grade students achieve reading proficiency.
Superintendent Ed Fletcher states, “We are profoundly grateful for Smithfield Foods’ generous donation, which will make an immediate impact on literacy instruction and assessment at Harding Primary School. Anything we can do to make teachers’ workload a little lighter while also supporting student achievement is a big win.”
Smithfield is dedicated to strengthening the educational fabric of local communities through targeted investments and partnerships.
