Dogs and now cats are required to be registered with the Warren County Animal Control. To get a dog tag in Warren County, your pet must have a current rabies vaccination and proof of altering status, explains Animal Control Officer Becca Livingston:

“You need dog tags and cat tags. State law passed in 2020 for cat tags, and we just started enforcing those tags in 2025. Dogs have to be on a leash even if they are out and about, off the road; you can’t have your dog running at large on the road even though you have good recall,” reports Livingston.

“One-year for an altered animal is $15 and then a three-year tag for an altered animal is $45. On July 2nd, we moved down to my office, which is at the transportation building at 1360 South Main Street in Monmouth. We are open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8 am to 2 pm and then on Friday from 11 am to 1 pm,” Livingston adds.

Proof of rabies vaccination is required for all dogs and cats over four months of age.
