As families gather for the holidays, those difficult conversations many postpone or try to avoid may surface amid those celebrations. While it is never easy to discuss the future care of a loved one, Beacon of Hope Hospice Marketing Coordinator and Hospice Care Consultant Scott Swiler says these conversations, while emotional, can open the door to clarity and support.

“It is going to be informational; being able to sit down and talk about the process, talk about what we can provide for them, explain to them that the nurses are going to be there once a week. Also, anytime there is a change in condition. CNA’s will be there a few times a week. They have access to our chaplain, social worker, our volunteer coordinator, who can set up a volunteer to come in and play games, help with nails or hair, anything that needs to be done as well. Once that process happens, we will do an evaluation and that is where we do get medical records and do the admission and then start the process of helping care in the home or wherever they age in place.”

Beacon of Hope Hospice makes it possible for loved ones to stay at home pain-free and in the company of those who mean the most.
