The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 135 Sumner Street on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 4:34 AM. The response included all three fire stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered smoke inside the two-story residential house. Battalion Chief Matt Cain established command, and the Central Station crew opened ceilings on the second floor to discover and extinguish the fire in the attic. No injuries were reported. Prior to the fire department’s arrival, the residents exited the structure with their pets.
An emergency callback of off-duty personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators determined the fire to be unintentional.
