Galesburg, IL (December 11, 2025)- The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region, forecasting snow accumulation between 2 and 5 inches, beginning at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and concluding by 6:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025. Starting on Saturday, there is an 80% chance of snow with accumulation of 3 -5 inches. The nighttime temperatures could drop to -10 degrees. Sunday, the high will be 3 degrees with an overnight low of -5 degrees. Residents should take note of the bitter and dangerous cold that is expected to move in, especially by Saturday night into Sunday morning. Wind chills could be as low as -25 to -30.

Snow Emergency

Due to the forecasted snow accumulation, A snow emergency has been declared for the City of Galesburg, effective at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Citizens are reminded that parking is prohibited on all Galesburg City streets during a snow emergency. Vehicles parked on City streets (except in the central business district) during this time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The parking prohibition will remain in effect until all streets are cleared.

City crews will begin treating streets this afternoon ahead of the snow accumulation to reduce slick road conditions, and will begin plowing when accumulation reaches 2 inches. Removal of vehicles from city streets when a snow emergency is in effect facilitates this process. Additional information on snow removal procedures can be found on the City’s website.   • Knox County Housing Authority Shelter – 525/527 Iowa Ct, Galesburg (open 24 hours, daily)
  • Galesburg Public Safety Building – 150 S Broad St, Galesburg (open 24 hours, daily)
  • YMCA Lobby – 1324 W Carl Sandburg Dr, Galesburg (available as a warming center on Sat from 6 AM to 5 PM & Sun 10 AM – 5 PM)
  • Williamsfield Fire Station – 200 E Gale St, Williamsfield (open Sat & Sun 24 hrs)
