Fernando D. Fuentes Prieto, 41, of Moline, was arrested on a warrant for three counts of Criminal Sexual Assault and one count of Domestic Battery for offenses alleged to have been committed against a juvenile in Monmouth.
The defendant is believed to have left Illinois immediately after the alleged crime. Authorities suspected that Fuentes Prieto, a Mexican national, had fled to either Kansas, or Mexico, where he was born. He was ultimately located and arrested in Shawnee, Kansas before extradition to Illinois for a detention hearing.
Warren County Assistant State’s Attorney Alex Whitman made the case for detaining the defendant pending trial, branding him a flight risk, a danger to the victim, and a danger to the public at large. After a hearing on the petition to detain, Circuit Judge James R. Standard agreed and ordered Fuentes Prieto held while his case remains pending. Fuentes Prieto told the court that he planned to hire an attorney. He is scheduled to return to court February 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM on the matter of counsel.
The defendant is also wanted in Rock Island County on similar charges.
Charges are only accusations and not proof of any offense. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
