It is still flu season and while there is a new strain circulating, Knox County Health Department Director of Public Health Information and Community Engagement Erin Olson, says getting that flu vaccine will help lessening symptoms:
“We still have flu vaccines available, and we have the high dose vaccines for those that are 65 and above. Through the state we have seen the levels at high, we are back down to moderate as of the week of December 8th through the beginning of January 3rd. The hospital admission rates in the state of Illinois, at that time, still were at almost six percent due to the flu,” reports Olson.
“Just remember to wash your hands, cover your cough, and if you have that temperature don’t send your kids to school, don’t send yourself to work. It is hitting people very hard and it is lingering for quite a while once you do get it. Getting the flu vaccine that is out is still going to assist with lessening your symptoms,” Olson adds.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health Respiratory Illness Dashboard, Illinois as a state remains at a moderate activity level for the flu.
