A Monmouth firefighter was recognized at the latest City Council meeting for his response during a medical emergency while off duty, reports Fire Chief Casey Rexroat:

“We received news that one of our firefighters, Schuyler Melton, was at an event where there was a medical emergency. This was earlier this summer and without hesitation, he jumped right in to help out with the patient that was having a very serious medical emergency. He was able to jump right in and take part with a couple of other people there with medical training that helped too. This came right after he received his EMT Training. The patient is doing fine. We just wanted to do something nice for Melton. Giving him an award we thought was the perfect thing to recognize his outstanding actions during the incident.”

Firefighter Melton was sworn into the Monmouth Fire Department this past September.
